Ciaran McGonagle placed 27th overall at the 2024 IAU 100k World Championships in India on Saturday.

McGonagle and his Letterkenny AC colleague Caitriona Jennings represented Ireland in the event in Bengaluru.

McGonagle came through in seven hours, 14 minutes and two seconds.

The Burtonport man is a fairly recent graduate to ultra running, representing Ireland at the Anglo Celtic Plate in 2023 and 2024. He holds the national record of 6:50:28.

In the high humidity of India, McGonagle clocked 7:14:02 for 27th overall and he the LAC man was second in the men’s 45-49 category.

Japan’s Jumpei Yamaguchi won in 6:12:03 ahead of Spain’s Antonio Jesus Aguilar in 6:25:40 and Japan’s Haruki Okayama in 6:37:39.

Jennings, who ran the women’s marathon at the 2012 Olympic Games and who was the bronze medal winner at the last edition of these Championships in 2022 in Germany, withdrew eight laps in.
