Letterkenny mixed martial artist Jordan Furey will represent Ireland at the MMA Super Cup in Bahrain next month.

Furey has been confirmed as part of the Irish team that will take part in the Super Cup from March 7-12 during the Brave International Combat Week.

The event is a new tournament in association with the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF).

Ireland have been drawn against the Russian Mixed Martial Arts Union in a quarter-final.

Adbulla Aliev is the Russian welterweight while Furey, who was the silver medalist at the weekend’s Irish National MMA Championships, is the Irishman at 170bs.

The four winners of the first round will meet in the semi-finals before the two semi-final winners compete in the Grand Final, for the MMA Super Cup trophy and a €87,984 prize.

The prize money is intended to go towards the development of the winning national federations.

Ireland are in the top six ranked nations alongside Russia, Ukraine, Bahrain, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.

Furey lost out to Colin Meagher in Sunday’s senior welterweight final at SBG HQ in Dublin.

Furey, who is 6-1 in the sport, defeated Liam McGeough in Saturday’s semi-final via ground and pound in the first round.
