Bridget McDyer set a new Donegal record on route to a National Senior Indoor silver medal on Saturday afternoon.
The Finn Valley AC woman took silver in the weight for distance (28lbs).
With her sixth attempt, McDyer threw out to 6.46m at Abbotstown.
Zoe Mohan of Cushinstown won the event with a 6.67m throw.
McDyer has been in good form and her new mark eclipses a throw of 6.02m set in Athlone last month.
She is the first native of the Rosses in 74 years to win a national senior throws medal. In 1948, John Gallagher, while competing for Strabane AC, won gold in the shot put .
Brendan Boyce took silver in the 5k race walk.
Boyce, over a much shorter distance than he usually competes, finished in 21:05.24. Farranfore’s David Kenny won gold in 19:36.38.
Finn Valley AC’s James Kelly and Gavin McLaughlin were in the silver and bronze medal positions in the men’s shot put.
Eric Favors (Raheny) won gold with a best throw of 19.48 metres. Kelly claimed the silver, reading out to 17.33m while a 16.57m best saw McLaughlin secure bronze.
Mark English breezed into the final of the men’s 800m at the National Indoor Championships.
The Finn Valley AC man comfortably won his heat at the National Indoor Arena.
English clocked 1:52.90 to win ahead of Mark Milner (UCD) and Jake Bagge (Ferrybank) and reach Sunday’s final.
Lucy McGlynn was third in her 200m heat in 25.72 seconds and Letterkenny AC’s Sheldon Romeo Nyoni was third (22.96) in his 200m heat.
McGlynn qualified for the final of the 60m hurdles, where she ini shed eighth in 9.01 seconds.
Cara Laverty of Finn Valley AC came fifth in her 800m heat, going 2:19.10.
In the 400m, Eoin Kelly (Letterkenny AC) and Eoin Sharkey (Tir Chonaill AC) were fourth and fifth in the same heat, but did not advance to the final.
