Paddy Doherty of Illies toasts his win in the Ulster senior heavyweight final.
Buncrana boxer Paddy Doherty is raising money in aid of suicide prevention by running 5k every day during March.
Doherty, the reigning Ulster senior heavyweight champion, has begun his fundraising efforts in the opening days of the month.
Youth Suicide Prevention Ireland has been working for over ten years to provide free education and training services to schools and colleges around Ireland and offer a wide range of programmes.
“According to the World Health Organisation 2016 report, suicide is the second highest death amongst young people across the world,” Doherty told Donegal Live.
“Sadly Ireland is not spared from this problem which affects almost every community in our country.
“According to research by UNICEF published in 2017 Ireland has the fourth highest teen suicide rate in the EU/OECD region.”
In October, Doherty defeated Michael Quinn from Belfast in the Ulster Senior heavyweight final.
The Illies Golden Gloves puncher ended a four-and-a-half year exile from the ring by hitting back in style.
