Impressive Cahir Gormley books place in Ulster senior final

Cahir Gormley has his hand raised in victory.

Illies Golden Gloves welterweight Cahir Gormley will line up in the Ulster Senior final on Thursday evening.

Gormley has impressed this week on his way to the 67kgs decider at the Dockworkers Club in Belfast.

Gormley claimed a unanimous decision win over Canal BC’s Timothy Burns on Tuesday night in his quarter-final.

On Wednesday night, Gormley returned to Sailortown for another superb victory. Gormley stopped Gleann’s Jay Hara in his semi-final.

Brian Morgan, out of the Kronk club in Belfast, awaits Gormley in the final.

Last November, Gormley won the Youth 63.5kgs division at the Celtic Box Cup in Dungarvan.

He will be the sole Donegal representative in action in Thursday’s finals.

Raphoe BC’s two-time European bronze medalist Leah Gallen received a walkover in the 70kgs class.

Bryan McNamee, also of Raphoe BC, defeated Peter Clarke from Errigal, in a 75kgs semi-final on Wednesday night, but a cut over his left eye has forced his withdrawal ahead of the final.
