Watch: Camping gear, rubbish bags and broken glass left in 'No Camping' area

The mess was left behind by campers in Murvagh Forest which is designated a 'No Camping' zone by local by-laws

Watch: Camping gear, rubbish bags and broken glass left in 'No Camping' area

Murvagh has yet again been subjected to unsightly littering caused by illegal campers.

The owners of Bean to Roam coffee pod at Murvagh beach and forest shared a video taken over the weekend. It shows a discarded tent filled with shopping bags of rubbish. Other camping gear is discarded in the area, and there is broken glass and other rubbish lying around.

A spokesperson shared the video to Facebook, and asked: "How can we educate people to have respect for Murvagh forest?

"Please take your litter and broken glass home."

Popular with wild campers, this fragile environment is protected by by-laws which prohibit camping.

And while many wild campers are very mindful of leaving no trace, unfortunately most of those who come to Murvagh are there to party rather than to enjoy the peace of their natural surroundings. Sadly, a number of them leave all of their rubbish behind.

Discarded camping gear and broken glass are all too common. As well as being unsightly, this litter can have serious consequences for the natural environment.

Michelle from Bean To Roam is encouraging those who enjoy the natural beauty of Murvagh to follow the Friends of Murvagh Beach Facebook page or to get involved in the local group.
