Teachta Doherty said: 'Israeli war bonds will no longer be sold through Ireland'
Sinn Féin spokesperson on Finance, Pearse Doherty TD, has commended everyone who campaigned against Ireland’s role in facilitating the sale of Israeli war bonds.
The Donegal TD was responding to reports that Israel has moved to Luxembourg for the approval needed to sell its war bonds across the EU. It has also not included Ireland as one of the member states where it will sell its war bonds.
Teachta Doherty said: “Israeli war bonds will no longer be sold through Ireland. This has been stopped by the hard work of campaigners. I want to commend everyone who fought so hard over the last year to bring this shameful involvement to an end.

“Israel has now sought approval from the Luxembourg Banking Supervision Authority due to the political pressure it has faced in Ireland. Israel has also not included Ireland as one of the countries where it will sell its war bonds. It shows what people can achieve even without the support of their government.
“Sinn Féin produced legally sound legislation to give the Minister for Finance the explicit and immediate powers to end Ireland’s involvement with Israeli War Bonds. That legislation was rejected by the government without any credible legal justification. It was an act of cowardice that allowed Israel to continue raising money on international markets for their genocide.
“Despite the government’s refusal to act, the hard work of ordinary people across this country who stood up and said ‘not in my name’ has made a difference and forced Israel to find another country willing to facilitate its fundraising for genocide.
“The genocide in Gaza won't stop until Israel faces real sanctions for their crimes. We won't stop fighting until that happens.”
