Marc Walsh was on the scoresheet on Friday night as Dungannon Swifts overcame Newry City 2-0.

The Loughanure man opened the scoring at The Showgrounds on a night when Dungannon moved level with Newry in the battle to avoid the drop from the NIFL Premiership.

Walsh tucked home in the 42nd minute to break the deadlock with his third goal of the season.

Walsh then won a 59th minute penalty from which James Knowles doubled the lead and sealed a precious win.

Walsh was recruited by Dean Shiels in January 2022 following a spell at Derry City.

The 21-year-old came through at Gweedore Celtic before going to Finn Harps’ Under-17s in 2016. Subsequently, Walsh, a Republic of Ireland underage international, signed with Swansea City and was there until penning a deal with Derry in 2021.
