That type of performance is unacceptable at Finn Harps - Dave Rogers

Finn Harps were thrashed 7-1 by Waterford on Friday night.

Dave Rogers says his Finn Harps side need to learn quickly following what he described as an “unacceptable performance” following their 7-1 drubbing away to Waterford on Friday night.

The hosts had new boss Keith Long in the dugout for the first time at the RSC and they certainly hit the ground running with this dominant showing.

However, Rogers says his side simply can’t afford to dwell on the weekend’s shocker. And they’ll quickly look to pick themselves up ahead of next week’s trip away to Kerry FC.

“We did warn the players that Waterford might have that ‘new manager’ bounce,” said Rogers, whose side found themselves three down at the break. “But I have to say for the first 30 minutes I felt we were the better team. Obviously, we got killed with a sucker punch. The first strike on goal went in.

“After that we just caved. Two goals in stoppage time before half time, it was a tough one. We said to the lads at the break, ‘if we get an early goal we’re might get back in this game’. But it’s lessons learned.

“I’m not going to come out here and have a go at the players. We have to be more game intelligent - more ruthless in certain areas. It’s not nice. I made sure we went over to the fans at the end.

“Our fans are absolutely immense. It’s not nice for them either. They’ve made a long journey and spent their hard-earned cash. I’ve just let the players know in there they need to grow up really quickly. And even though they will learn from it, that type of performance is unacceptable”.
