Finn Harps will continue to improve - Darren Murphy

Three points, seven goals and enough chances to double the score and then some, Friday night at Finn Park was action packed from the word go and Finn Harps assistant boss Darren Murphy believes the win over Cobh Ramblerd was well deserved.

"It was a great game for the supporters," he started. "When you come out on the right side of a score like this, maybe it's not enjoyable at points but they deserve a lot of credit.

"Going behind twice and getting back into the game, then taking a lead and to be fair to Cobh, they got back into the game too but we kept pushing and the winner came."

A few fresh faces have been added to the Harps roster in recent weeks and the last two games have shown that they've made a telling impact and Murphy noted that their addition has been pleasing on a  number of levels.

"What these new additions have done is made the competition for places a bit healthier," he said. The bench tonight, we have experience and options on there and at the start we maybe didn't have that.

"It was always going to be a learning curve for everyone and it's nice that we have all the players  based in Donegal.

"It's not as if the new players have just arrived, they've  been here for a few weeks and they've been able to integrate themselves into the squad.

"It's really pleasing and we have good options on the bench and we still have Ryan Rainey, Seamas Keogh and Ellis Farrar on the injury list.

"We have a squad now where we know that if we lose one or two, that we have quality to bring in and that's pretty satisfying." He added.

Harps scored four at home for the first time since November of 2021 (5-0 v Longford) and Murphy said that this game had its negative alongside some of the positives at full time.

"The first two goals we gave away were really disappointing, especially being an ex-defender myself," he stated.

"It's the disappointing thing about tonight because we probably could have made the game a lot more comfortable in the first-half but that's for another day, we'll get the players in tomorrow and speak about it.

"The positives, we scored four at home, three from open play and that is huge. That win tonight was big and it wasn't for the management team or the players, it was for the fans.

"They've suffered a long time and I've said it a few times now that I'd have loved to have played in front of these Harps fans, they want a team they can be proud of and tonight we made them proud."
