Gareth Harkin scored the winner as Dergview gave new manager Emmet Friars a winning start in his new role.

The Letterkenny man struck on 51 minutes to give Dergview a 2-1 win over Newington in the NIFL Championship.

Former Finn Harps man Niall McGinley had given Dergview the lead and Neil Cummings equalised just before half-time.

Ex-Harps captain Harkin struck six minutes into the second half for what proved to be the winner.

Friars, who played previously at Letterkenny Rovers, has taken over from Tommy Canning at Darragh Park.

Donegal men Shane O’Gara, Jack Parke, Keith Cowan and Shane McMonagle also started for Dergview.

Convoy’s Michael Harris scored a fourth-minute goal for Institute, but fiery goals in the final 18 minutes gave H&W Welders a 4-1 win.
