Tyler Toland and Ciara Grant were on target with goals for Blackburn Rovers and Hearts on Sunday.
Toland netted as Blackburn defeated Darwen FC 4-0 in the Women’s FA Cup while Grant struck in a 4-1 win for Hearts over Partick Thistle in the Scottish Women’s Premier League.
St Johnston woman Toland, just back from international duty with the Republic of Ireland at the Nations League, captained Blackburn for the Lancashire derby.
Meg Hornby and Lucy Shepherd gave Blackburn a first-half platform. On 70 minutes, Toland found the net when an indirect free-kick was touched into her path.
Chloe Williams added a fourth while Toland’s eventful day also saw her denied by Darwen ‘keeper Taylor Gregson from the penalty spot. Gregson saved superbly from Toland’s spot kick.
At Petershill, Letterkenny woman Grant was among the goalscorer for Hearts in a big win over Partick Thistle.
Imogen Longcake equalised for Thistle after Katie Lockwood’s early opener, but in first-half stoppage time Grant drilled in a free kick after Lockwood was fouled.
Carly Girasoli and Lockwood netted second-half goals as Hearts move within a point of fourth-placed Thistle.
