Gweedore Celtic ensured their place in the Brian McCormick Sports Premier Division for another season with a commanding victory in a promotion/relegation play-off match held at Diamond Park in Ballyare against Donegal Town on Sunday afternoon.

Two first-half goals paved the way for the Gweedore side in guaranteeing Premier Division football for the 2024/25 season, while Donegal Town will remain in the First Division following a superb season that saw them finish third, behind champions Letterkenny Rovers and Bonagee United.

A blistering start, scoring within two minutes and a second in the 40th minute rocked Donegal Town and a further two second-half goals, also at crucial times, helped the boys to this victory.

Cian McBride scored the first goal after a superb Martin Coyle pass, with Coyle himself landing the second goal when he lobbied the keeper from 20 yards.

Donegal added pressure early in the second half but a crucial third goal from Caolan Laux fifteen minutes into the second half killed any hopes of a comeback, with Laux’s goal coming courtesy of a free from Coyle with the former tapping it into the net to make it 3-0.

Coyle slotted home the fourth goal for Gweedore - a replica of his first goal, which ended the contest and saw Gweedore retain their status in the top division for next season.
