Just as penalties seemed just seconds away, Bonagee United scored not once but twice to grab the inaugural Donegal Women's Inter-League Cup.

There was high drama at Maginn Park where, first Chloe Creevy and then Natalie McFadden took the Cup to Bonagee at the expense of their derby foes Letterkenny Rovers.

Ciara McGarvey forced extra time when drawing Rovers level after Catherine Grier's sumptuous strike broke the deadlock.

In added time at the end of extra time, Bonagee pounced to snatch the silverware. When Creevy slotted home, it looked as if the tale was told, but McFadden still had time to steer in a third with the last kick of the game.

There was nothing between the sides after a tame first half. Bonagee's Hannah Hopkins – who was named as the player of the match – struck the outside of the post before McGarvey called Niamh Mailey, the Bonagee 'keeper, into action.

Six minutes before half-time, Mailey intervened in some style with a stunning save with her legs to thwart McGarvey's advances.

Late in the half, Republic of Ireland Deaf Futal Team international Grier fired a free kick into the arms of Amy Doherty in the Rovers goal.

After Aisling Mugan blasted wide early in the second half, Bonagee hit the front in the 52nd minute when Grier's wonderful effort from distance flew beyond Doherty.

McGarvey struck against the post almost instantly, but her low finish in the 69th minute brought Rovers back onto level terms.

Hopkins, a real threat out wide for the Dry Arch side, was off target while Orla Malseed's timely tackle denied McGarvey what might have been a winner.

At either end, Mailey and Doherty saved from McGarvey and Creevy in the opening minutes of the extra time.

Somehow, Doherty then got fingertips to a long-ranger by Hopkins and McGarvey tried her luck again only to find Mailey in top form.

The sky was darkening when Bonagee, via Creevy and McFadden, decided that they weren't going to hang around any longer.

The victory means a third successive League and Cup double for Bonagee and their name the first on the new Women's Inter-League Cup.
