Football fanatic Daniel O’Reilly was given a memento he’ll never forget on Saturday on Merseyside.
Daniel and his friends were guests of Seamus Coleman for the Premier League clash between Everton and Manchester City at Goodison Park, which Pep Guardiola’s side won 1-0 courtesy of a late Phil Foden goal.
After the final whistle, Everton and Republic of Ireland captain Coleman - a native of Killybegs - made his way outside the stadium to seek out Daniel and present him with the jersey he wore during the match.Daniel is the son of Jimmy and Gabby O’Reilly from Fernhill, Letterkenny, and his brother Connor, currently studying in the United States, was on the books of Bonagee United, Finn Harps and Ipswich Town, as well as playing underage football for Ireland.
A polished footballer himself, Daniel plays under Tony McNamee of Donegal Down Syndrome with the Donegal Titans, and also coaches the younger group.
Just before kick-off on Saturday, in an emotionally-charged atmosphere at Goodison, Coleman led out his Everton team draped in Ukrainian flags to show their solidarity for teammate Vitaly Mykolenko and Manchester City’s Oleksandr Zinchenko.
