Ryan Rainey admits it will take the new-look Finn Harps time to gel - but will commended the attitude of the new players in Friday night’s draw with Bohemians.
Promise Omochere and Ryan Connolly scored the goals as Bohemians were pegged back by Harps, which meant a 1-1 draw on a chilly night in Ballybofey.
“At the end of the day it was probably a fair result as both teams battled well and we probably didn’t do enough to win the game and neither did they,” Rainey said afterwards. “It’s another point on the board but it’s going to be a long battle. We probably didn’t play as good as in the other two games. It’s going to take time to gel.”
José Carrillo, Rob Slevin, Élie Gael N'zeyi Kibonge, Bastien Héry , Yoyo Mahdy. Eric McWoods and Filip Mihaljević were all making their first appearances at Finn Park.
With two points from three matches, Harps are still looking for their first victory of the 2022 campaign, although former Bonagee United midfielder Rainey believes they’re not far away, even though there’s another daunting weekend ahead to come.
“The new lads came in and there’s a lot of them,” he said. “They’re working hard. That’s all we can ask from them at the minute - to work hard, gel into the team and get used to what we’re used to. Three games in, still no win, but they will come.
“It’s their first game here. They may not be used to the physical standards of this league yet. A lot are in from abroad and from backgrounds that are probably different to here in Ireland. That’ll take time - they’re doing well.
“Next week, there’s another two fixtures with St Pat’s and then Sligo and the double weekends can be tough. Those new lads might not be used to that. Listen, it’ll take a squad effort. There’s lads here that will get their chance in due course to show what they can do.”
