Observations and submissions regarding the further development of Bundoran and the surrounding area are being sought, but do not leave it to the last minute.

Bundoran based Cllr Michael McMahon has advised south Donegal residents that the draft county development plan 2024-2030 which includes the new Bundoran area plan will be available for public consumption from now until October 13.

This will involve topics such as derelict buildings in the resort, traffic management strategies, especially during the summer months, land rezoning for an increasing population base and other developments and amenities that will enhance the seaside town, for both locals and visitors to Bundoran.

He said: “As can be seen by the recent housing developments starting or in the pipeline for Bundoran, or as with the upgrading of water pipes or the water treatment plant, in recent years, it is vitally important, on so many levels, than an active engagement with the process is supported, and the views are heard from the people that live here, each day of the year on the new draft proposals that will take us to the end of this decade.

Cllr Michael McMahon has encouraged active engagement of the process with the draft Development Plan

“As with any new developments the town is changing to meet the new demands and expectations of residents and visitors and which has been the catalyst in the past of many of the attractions and utilities that we all benefit from today.”

You can make written submissions to the planning authority at The Central Planning Unit, Donegal County Council House, Lifford, with full name and address of the person making the submission or email donegaldevplan@donegalcoco.ie.

There will also be a drop-in day at the former Town Council Offices in Bundoran on Monday September 18, where people can ask questions and air their views regarding the future of Bundoran.

In recent days, Donegal County Council published the Draft County Donegal Development Plan 2024-2030, which Incorporated area plans for Ballybofey/Stranorlar, Buncrana, and Bundoran.

The final date for submissions is Friday, October 13.
