Ryan Kelly set to defend lightweight title against Dean Maguire at Clan Wars 49

Ryan Kelly is back in action in Belfast this coming March.

Ryan Kelly will defend his lightweight title belt against Omagh’s Dean Maguire in Belfast on Saturday, March 9 as Clan Wars 49 takes centre stage.

Kelly, the younger brother of unbeaten Bellator fighter Darragh Kelly, last fought in October, taking all three rounds against Aaron Boyle.

The win moved the 19-year-old Moville man to 4-1. Last May, he stopped Nicky Gordon to return to winning ways following a decision loss to James Slavin in March.

Meanwhile, SBG prospect Darragh Kelly’s own future became a little clearer in the last number of days with the news that the Professional Fighters League (PFL) has announced it's completed the acquisition of Bellator from Paramount Global.

Kelly and the rest of the Bellator fighter roaster have now been absorbed by the PFL and with Saudi Arabian backing, it hopes to rival premier MMA organisation, the UFC, moving forward.

“This totally changes the MMA landscape overnight,” PFL founder Donn Davis said this week.

“You essentially put two number two companies to create a co-leader. The combined PFL Bellator roster now has 30 percent of its fighters who are ranked top 25 in the world by Fight Matrix. That’s the same as UFC has in their roster.”
