DONEGAL RALLY: Drama on the early stages on Day Two

Saturday's opening two stages on the Joule Donegal International Rally have served up some early drama.

The competitors have completed the Knockalla and Garrygort stages, the first two of eight stages on Saturday.

Declan and Brian Boyle continue to lead the way, but their lead over Donagh Kelly and Conor Foley is just 4.9 seconds.

Seamus Leonard and John McCafferty, in a Subaru S14, are up to third. That's after Manus Kelly and Donal Barrett had an off on Garrygort. They lost over 1 minute and 40 seconds on the leaders and have dropped down to eighth overall.

Alaistair Fisher and Gordon Noble in a Ford Fiesta R5 are fourth.

Sam Moffett and Karl Atkinson are fourth on almost the same time.

In the National Category, Brian Brogan and Damian McGettigan were leading after Day One but on the first stage on Knockalla, they were forced to pull in with mechanical problems and they lost several minutes. Their challenge would appear to be over.

The new leaders in the National are Jonathan Pringle and Alan Keena in a Ford Escort Mk2.

They lead by 2.9 seconds from Damien Tourish and Domhnall McAlaney.

In third place are David Bogie and Enda Sherry.

Declan Gallagher and James McNulty in a Toyota Starlet RWD have dropped out of the top three and are down to seventh after hitting mechanical trouble on Stage 8.

The drivers are in service in Milford before tackling Knockalla and Garrygort again for Stages 9 and 10.
