Mixed fortunes for Donegal boxers in National Intermediate finals

Denis O’Donnell (Dungloe BC) was crowned National 81kg champion after getting a walkover against a flu-infected Gary Sweeney (Mike Flahertys) at the National Stadium in Dublin on Friday night last.

Meanwhile Danny Tourish (Twin Towns), lost an exciting Heavyweight Final by 22- 20 to Krystian Sikora (St. Francis). After a dramatic first round, which saw Sikora sustain a nasty cut under his right eye, continuous pressure from Tourish almost ended the contest twice when the ref intervened to allow a doctors examination. However Sikora survived and turned a 12-7 deficit at the end of the second into a narrow 22-20 win.

Cornerman Eamon McAuley, was unhappy with the scoring in the final round but a gracious in defeat Tourish, confessed that he had thrown it away as he had tired near the end.

There was also heartbreak for Rosemary Doherty (Carndonagh) as she lost narrowly by 15-14 to Michelle Chambers (Castlebar) in her 54kg Final.
