Lineout action from Ballyshannon v Letterkenny at the Lakeside today
Letterkenny RFC proved too strong in the second half as they took the honours against Ballyshannon at a sunny Lakeside, Ballyshannon.
LETTERKENNY 17
BALLYSHANNON 9
The home side had the better of the opening half and were in a healthy position at half-time when leading by 6-0. James Cleary converted two first half penalties for Ballyshannon.
But it was a different story in the second half with Letterkenny hitting back, even though playing against the slight breeze. They took the lead early in the half when Martin Molloy got in for their first try, which was converted by Liam Fogarty for a 7-6 advantage.
However, Ballyshannon went back in front after 55 minutes when Cleary stepped up again to convert a third penalty and a 9-7 lead.
But as the half progressed Letterkenny began to exert more and more pressure. That pressure paid off with 15 minutes remaining when Odhran Finn got over in the corner. And even though Fogarty was unable to find the range with the conversion, the Letterkenny side were beginning to dominate.
They were helped in the final quarter when Ballyshannon had two players yellow carded and the pressure paid off with Ewan Henry getting over for a third try to make it a successful trip south for the Letterkenny boys.
