Cllr Frank McBrearty has called on the Donegal County Council to source funding for designated bus parking in Raphoe

The urgent need for allocated bus parking in Raphoe has been highlighted, where it was claimed that motorists are being forced to “park illegally”.

Councillor Frank McBrearty has asked Donegal County Council to source funding to provide designated bus parking spots.

Cllr McBrearty, who is a Raphoe native, says the lack of bus parking availability is leaving motorists with no option but to park illegally in the town.

“There are high volumes of traffic coming in and out of Raphoe,” the independent councillor said at the Lifford-Stranorlar MD October meeting. “Raphoe is an educational hub - we have students coming from everywhere to the Royal and Prior and Deele College.

“The buses have nowhere to park, and the ETB has a responsibility in this as well to come up with a funding source to help the Donegal County Council to address the issue of traffic in the town. Our town is growing with the students coming in - the ETB has a role to play in this when it comes to funding to deal with these issues.”
