A transition year student at Rosses Community College, Dungloe has won first place in a national video competition organised by the Construction Industry Federation. ‘Constructing Your Future’ is a national video competition developed by the organisation to highlight the exciting opportunities available to young people through a career in the construction sector.
Ellie Boyle, a transition year student at Rosses Community School won first place at the competition with her video diary of her work experience at McMullin Associates Architects, Donegal & Dungloe. The overall prize giveaway was worth €850 and first prize for the competition was a Ticketmaster voucher worth €400.
Speaking about her win Ellie Boyle said ““Through my entry in this competition, I recognised that there is an important role for everyone in constructing this country “
According to Dermot Carey, Director of Safety and Training at CIF, “congratulations to Ellie Boyle on her big win. Ellie’s video gave a really clear and comprehensive outline of what she learned and achieved during her work experience. She did a great job and really communicated her points to a very high standard throughout her video. She showed a keen interest to learn but also a strong ability to communicate and share ideas, which is a vital part of so many careers within the construction sector. I have no doubt Ellie has a great career ahead of her.”
“I would also like to commend McMullin Associates Architects for hosting Ellie and giving her such a positive and varied work experience” according to Dermot Carey, CIF. “Feedback within the construction sector consistently highlights the challenges facing companies and businesses to recruit enough staff in recent years. Across Ireland there are second level students looking for work experience every single year. Local builders and construction companies are well placed to nurture local talent, show them what options are available and encourage them into the industry. McMullin Associates Architects must be congratulated for taking the time and making the effort to support young people into the industry.”
“Earlier this year students from Rosses Community School also took part in Safe Pass Training with Construction Industry Federation” said Dermot Carey. “Educators at Rosses Community School must be commended for giving their students every opportunity to develop their skills and their career options. We are hoping more and more second level students get to experience the construction industry for themselves to see the variety of career options it offers them for the future.”
