The leading music festival, Scoil Gheimhridh Ghaoth Dobhair will be officially opened on Wednesday, December 27 by singer, musician and masterchef Brian Danny Minnie Ó Domhnaill.
The evening will feature performances by local musicians An Crann Óg and Ó Ghlúin go Glúin who hail from Belfast. The night will end with a giant welcoming session where everyone is welcome.
Located in the breath-takingly beautiful Gaeltacht area of Gaoth Dobhair, the festival will see a series of events with performances by renowned artists such as Ye Vagabonds, Bláth na hÓige, Lillis Ó Laoire, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin, and many more.
The festival will also include session trails for all levels, album launches, and workshops in music, song, and dance from some of the best performers. The annual New Year's Eve event this year will feature the incredible Bonny Men and the event will take place in Gaoth Dobhair's stunning new
music venue The Social.
If you're interested in learning traditional Irish instruments, song, or dance, workshops will be held from December 28 to December 31 at Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair, An Luinnigh. The workshops will be led by some of the most respected musicians in the country, including acclaimed Uilleann Piper Maitiú Ó Casaide of the Bonny Men, Concertina players Lorraine O’Brien and Caitlín Nic Gabhann, Fiddlers Clare Friel of Altan, and Ciarán ó Maonaigh, Méabh Ní Bheaglaoich on accordion, Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin on flute, sean-nós dancing with Edwina Guckian plus many more. Mairead Ní Mhaonaigh of Altan will also be leading a singing workshop - however it has already sold out.

This year's festival will be held at Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair, Amharclann Ghaoth Dobhair, An Chrannóg, The Social Venue, and Teach Hiúdaí Beag.
