Clarity sought on who has responsibility for Tory Island sea wall

The Director of Water and Environment has said that clarification needs to be sought in relation to the Tory Island sea wall.

The danger relating to this wall was highlighted, once again, this week by the Cathoirleach of Glenties Municipal District who called for the sea wall on Tory Island to be completed as a matter of urgency.

Cllr. Michael McClafferty says the wall was not completed at the time of construction and the height of the wall, at the edge of the sea, is extremely dangerous.

Director Michael McGarvey said that there are a number of issues that needs to be addressed in relation to the wall. He added that it is not a project that the council has a lead role in but added that clarity must be brought to the situation.

The matter was raised at a meeting of Coiste an Oileán in Dungloe earlier today.
