Donegal Drama Circle brings Beauty Queen of Leenane to Leghowney

Donegal Drama Circle is bringing Martin McDonagh’s breakthrough play The Beauty Queen of Leenane to the stage in Leghowney Community Centre. 

And reports coming from rehearsals suggest that this will be an excellent staging of the play which is the first in McDonagh’s Leenane trilogy. It will see the introduction of two new actors to the stage, Laura McNulty and Martin Callaghan.

A spokesperson for Donegal Drama Circle said: “This is Martin McDonagh’s first play in the Leenane trilogy and follows the story of Maureen Folan (Laura McNulty) who has been looking after her mother Mag Folan (Amanda Crawford) for the last 20 years when a chance encounter with Pato Dooley (Conor Friery) at the Yanks going away do - that Ray Dooley (Martin Callaghan) invites her to - gives her hope for change in her life and romance.

“However, her mother is determined to thwart her dreams.”

The Beauty Queen of Leenane will be staged at Leghowney Community Centre on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, October 5, 6, and 7 at 8pm sharp. Admission is €15.
