Dungloe Wind Turbine Action Group wants proposed Wind Turbine Farm stopped

The Dungloe Wind Turbine Action Group feel that the 2006 guidelines are not fit for purpose

A group of concerned residents are calling for the local people to be heard and stop the proposed Wind Turbine plant from going ahead to erect five wind turbines in the townland of  Cronashallog close to the Dungloe town boundary.

A community meeting will be taking place in Dungloe on Friday, October 3, at The Ionad Tempall Chroine library at  7pm  - doors will be open from 6:30pm.

"There are many studies showing how dangerous these Wind Turbines are to human health and to the health of farm animals and our wildlife, and we feel that the 2006 guidelines are not fit for purpose," a spokesperson for the Dungloe Wind Turbine Action Group said.

"The proposed site has a forestry plantation close by and it is also bog ground. Peat bogs are carbon sinks and must be preserved as nature intended to keep our air and water clean. Co Donegal has already seen and felt the impact of the Meenbog landslide, which travelled 20 km and was caused by wind turbines placed on bog ground. We, the people in Cronashallog and the surrounding areas, do not want a repeat of what happened in Meenbog to  happen in Dungloe,

This proposed industrial development could stifle any new developments from arising in the area at a time of an extreme housing crisis and it will also devalue the property and land in the area. The N56, where the proposed site entrance will be, is the gateway to the Rosses, which is dependent on tourism.

"We have people who travel from far and wide to attend our local  Mary From Dungloe International Festival each year who love the scenic views and rugged hills. We feel that no development can be allowed which will affect the tourism industry in the West of Donegal,as that will also have an impact on employment in the future."

Planning Application file number is 2561652. Closing date for submissions is Tuesday, October 28, 2025 People objecting must include the planning file number and €20.
