One of Donegal’s most spectacular Blue Flag beaches is set to be the venue for the European Youth Lifesaving Championships 2026.
This major international event takes place in Rossnowlagh on September 5 and 6. It is only the second time that Ireland has hosted the European Youth Lifesaving Championships, with the event having taken place at Kilkee Beach, County Clare in 2018.
A spokesperson for Water Safety Ireland said: “Set along one of Ireland’s most iconic surf locations, Rossnowlagh Beach will welcome Europe’s top youth athletes for a spectacular showcase of skill, endurance, and competition.
“Further information, including the official website, registration details, schedules, and event updates, will be released in due course.

The competition is for competitors with a maximum age of 18, and is the junior equivalent of the European Lifesaving Championships. While the adult version is held every two years (taking place in the years between the world championships), the youth competition takes place annually.
A full range of skills required by lifesavers is tested. And the beach at Rossnowlagh, a mecca not only for swimmers and surfers but for a range of adventure sports participants, is sure to provide the perfect arena.
Further updates will be issued closer to the time.
