The new President of County Donegal Historical Society is Rev. Dr. Pádraig Ó Baoighill. He is a native of Baile na Finne and is the Parish Priest of Gaoth Dobhair. He received his primary education at Shallogans N.S. and his secondary education at St. Eunan’s College, Letterkenny. He obtained his third level education at St. Patrick’s
College Maynooth where he obtained the Degree of Bachelor of Divinity and the Higher Diploma in Education. He continued his studies at the University of Ulster where he obtained the Diploma in Advanced Studies in Education (D.A.S.E), a Masters Degree inEducation (M.Ed) and an M.A. Degree in Irish.
In 2003 he graduated from the University of Ulster with the Degre of Doctor of Philosophy (D. Phil). He is also a qualified teacher of Speech and Drama, having obtained his qualification from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London (L.G.S.M). He also holds the Teastas i dTeagasc na Gaeilge.
Prior to being ordained a priest, he taught in Dublin, Longford and Athlone. After his ordination in 1991 he spent 16 years as Chaplain at Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the County Donegal Historical Society for twenty years. He is also serving his second term of office as a Member of the National Commission on Liturgy.

He has published articles in the Donegal Annual and Éire/Ireland, as well as articles in Irish in An tUltach. His major publication is the biography of Cardinal Patrick O’Donnell (1856-1927), which was published by Foilseacháin Chró na mBothán in 2008.
