Large crowd expected in Donegal Town for the Eamon Harvey 10k

Donegal Town is preparing to welcome up to 1,500 participants for the annual Eamon Harvey 10K and 5K Fun Run this Sunday, 13 September.
Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, organisers expect this year’s race to sell out. Around 1,000 runners are due to take part in the 10K, while more than 500 people are expected to participate in the 5K Fun Run. Both events will begin at 10.30am sharp.
A strong field of elite athletes from across Ireland has been attracted to Donegal Town to compete for the Eamon Harvey Perpetual Cup. Last year’s men’s race was won by Michael Murphy of Tullamore Harriers, while Finn Valley AC’s Noeleen Scanlan claimed the women’s title.
Organisers say the occasion will be about much more than competitive running. DJs and live bands will entertain participants and spectators at several locations along the route, creating what promises to be one of the most colourful and atmospheric road races in the North-West, all to raise as much money as possible for the Donegal Cancer Support Centre.
This year’s event will hold particular significance following the passing of Eamon Harvey earlier this year. Eamon greatly enjoyed the inaugural race, and Sunday’s event will serve as a fitting tribute to a man who contributed enormously to sport and community life in Donegal and throughout Ireland.
With large crowds expected, Race Director Declan McCabe is encouraging participants to collect their race packs on Saturday where possible. Those collecting packs on Sunday morning are advised to arrive early.
