The now annual event, this year raised vital funds for the RNLI through the sale of Christmas bulbs - each one lit in memory of loved ones no longer with us.

This touching tribute added a deeply meaningful element to the evening, reminding all present of the enduring connections that bind the community together.

Families, friends and neighbours came together to witness the spectacular moment the tree was illuminated for the first time this year. Organisers expressed heartfelt thanks to the many volunteers and local residents whose generosity and dedication made the event possible.

A special word of gratitude was extended to Declan Meehan of Coillte, who helped source the magnificent Christmas tree that now stands proudly outside Christchurch. Transporting the tree was made possible by Darren Armstrong, whose help ensured it arrived safely and on time.

The task of decorating the tree was a community effort in itself, carried out by Luke Wilson, David Sheeran, Richard Wilson, David Graham, and Pauric Meehan, who worked tirelessly to prepare it for the grand switch-on. Supporting the team, Andrew Conaghan provided the tractor used for accessing the upper branches, while McGinty Tractors supplied the essential safety basket needed to complete the work securely.

Richard Wilson, Mervyl McGettigan and David Graham oversaw the sale of bulbs throughout the past weeks. Their commitment raised valuable funds for the RNLI, an organisation that depends heavily on community support to continue its lifesaving operations along the coast.

Local organisers emphasised that the success of the event reflects the strong and generous spirit of Mountcharles. The night simply couldn’t happen without the commitment of the volunteers and the support of the local community. Each bulb shines in remembrance of someone special, and each donation helps support the RNLI in the crucial work they do.

As the lights continue to glow throughout the festive season, they stand not only as symbols of Christmas cheer but also as heartfelt tributes to loved ones remembered, illuminating the village with warmth, reflection, and community spirit.
