In Pictures: Foróige and Onóir bring music and joy to community hospital

Donegal Town Foróige were joined by members of Ónóir for a very special evening in Donegal Community Hospital

The Foróige Club at the Deck, a volunteer-led youth club in Donegal Town, brought smiles, laughter, and nostalgia to the residents of Donegal Community Hospital. Click on the arrows to see Siobhan McGowan's photos of the event.

On Thursday, January 30 the young people, along with the incredible volunteers who run the group, invited Donegal’s own Onóir to perform a special live session—an evening that was truly enjoyed by all.

The goal of the event was to bridge the generational gap, fostering a stronger sense of community through the power of music and conversation. The talented members of Onóir played beloved classics, encouraging both residents and young people to sing along. The band even invited the crowd to take over the session, with some residents and youth stepping up to share their own songs.

The Foróige Club at the Deck has a deep commitment to supporting Donegal Community Hospital. Before Christmas, they delivered care packages to residents, and they have also fundraised for a Dyson fan for the hospital’s family room. This event was another step in their ongoing mission to bring comfort and joy to the residents.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Onóir for their generosity, time, and talent, as well as to the dedicated youth club volunteers who worked tirelessly to organise the event, assist residents, and create such a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

The club plans to organise similar events in the future, reinforcing the importance of community and intergenerational connections as well as plans to raise more funds for the hospital.
