There were many reason's to celebrate at the Bluestack Special Needs Foundation on Monday.
The day began with a visit from Minister of State for Public Health, Well Being and National Drugs Strategy Frank Feighan. He was there to see how the Healthy Ireland Fund had benefited service users at the foundation.
And while his visit was very much welcomed, there was also a huge outpouring of love and appreciation for Patrick McBrearty, the foundation's founder who was celebrating his 60th birthday.
Those gathered heard that 20 years ago, on the occasion of his 40th birthday, Patrick asked 40 friends to walk 40 miles to raise €40,000 to support the families of people with additional needs in Donegal. The birth of his own daughter Áine had brought home to him how little support in accessing services was available to families of people with additional needs.
