Animals In Need Donegal is appealing for loving homes for vulnerable kittens, including a blind kitten and his devoted brother and a little white and ginger kitten who was found standing in the middle of a road all alone

Animals In Need (AIN) are seeking a special home for two beautiful fluffy black kittens, called Cosmo and Comet.

Cosmo is blind, and it is a miracle that he managed to live on the streets for so long, but he relies on his brother, Comet, who probably played a major role in their survival.

They are both very sweet-natured boys, although timid, so a quiet, indoor-only home would be perfect for them.

The brothers were born in April and have been neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped.

If you can offer Cosmo and Comet a home, please contact AIN.

Kittens continue to be found around the county, including a little white and ginger kitten called Elsa who was found on Friday night, standing in the middle of the road, all alone.

Elsa was sick with cat flu, freezing cold and very lucky not to be hit by a car, but once she was warmed up, fed and medicated, she began to feel better.

However, it turned out that Elsa was not alone after all.

AIN volunteers had initially searched the area around where Elsa was found in the dark, but upon their return the next morning, they found Elsa’s two brothers sitting there.

The three kittens were reunited at AIN, and the boys are now called Olaf and Kristoff.

Kristoff, the tabby kitten, is in good condition but sadly black kitten Olaf has a severely infected eye.

The ‘Frozen’ kittens are receiving treatment and hopefully will recover.

It is the time of year for finding kittens in the road, as many of them will climb into a car engine for warmth as the temperatures drop, then they fall out when the vehicle is moving.

Several weeks ago, a little kitten called Violet was found lying on the road and appeared to be dead.

A passing driver stopped to put Violet’s body on the side of the road only to discover that she was alive. Barely, but still alive.

The driver brought Violet home, warmed her up and contacted AIN.

Since then, Violet has fully recovered and is an absolutely stunning kitten, with amazing blue eyes.

Violet is 10 weeks old, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed and litter-trained and ready to find her forever home.

Two tiny kittens were found in a ditch on a riverbank recently. They were only 2-3 weeks old and a third kitten had already died.

An experienced AIN fosterer cared for the two survivors, who had started to develop cat flu; bottle-feeding them every few hours around the clock. Tragically, despite everyone’s best efforts, one of the kittens passed away.

However, the final kitten, Django, is thriving and growing stronger every day.

Rescuing animals, many of them injured or sick, and nearly all of them unwanted, can be emotionally draining, but it is the happy endings and receiving updates on the animals as they enjoy fantastic lives in their new homes that makes it all worthwhile.

This week, AIN was delighted to receive news on a pup called Dottie.

Dottie had been rescued back in February, after her straying mother gave birth to seven pups and hid them a woodpile in Buncrana .

After the Dog Warden managed to dig the pups out, mum dog Nora and the seven pups were transferred to an AIN foster home.

An extremely busy few months began for their fosterer, especially as two of the pups were weak and it was a struggle to keep them alive, but in the end all seven pups survived.

Nora and her pups were adopted, and pup Dottie is having a wonderful life as a much-loved part of her new family, which is fantastic news.

AIN mostly rescues and rehomes cats and dogs, but this week they are seeking homes for five young Bantam roosters.

Currently based in Ballyshannon, the roosters are 3-4 months old and if you are interested in offering one a home, please contact AIN.

Finally, AIN has launched a fundraising raffle, with an exceptional hamper as the prize.

The Luxury Afternoon Tea Hamper containing continental confectionery has all sorts of top end goodies. Details of the hamper and the raffle can be found on AIN’s social media pages.

Every ticket sold goes directly towards helping all the animals in AIN’s care – providing food, medical care, comfort, and second chances.
