PICTURE SPECIAL: Record crowds in Dungloe for Marching Bands Easter Parade

Rivalled only by the Mary Parade or a Daniel O’Donnell concert, Dungloe attracted the largest crowd seen in the town for many years for Ireland’s biggest marching bands parade  with over 5,000 people coming along to watch and participate in brilliant sunshine.

This parade has gone from strength to strength over the years and this year saw a record 17 bands taking part, from Donegal to Cloughaneely, Killianto  Crickamore, Rannafeirste to all the bands from Maghery - it was simply a feast of colour and great music.

This year it was very much Maghery’s year with Courtney Boyle, last year’s Gaeltacht Mary from Dungloe, going home with an armful of trophies.

It was also a proud day for Martina Boyle Diver, another Mary from Dungloe stalwart, as she watched her daughters Aoife and Ciara marching and playing with the overall champions.

It really was a day where “everybody was a winner”  - the sheer enthusiasm, the unbounded energy and enthusiasm and those broad smiles on all the participants made this a day to savour. Bring on the Mary from Dungloe Festival!
