This year’s Kildarragh Fair will take place from Tuesday, August 2 to Sunday, August 7, with events for all the family at McCarry’s Bar, Kildarragh. The main beneficiary this year is the Dyslexia Association of Ireland Letterkenny Branch.
Events get underway on Tuesday with a Ladies Football match between a Ladies Select V McCarry’s Bar Select in the Ozanam Community Centre Dunfanaghy at 7pm. At 10pm the opening Dance will take place in the Marquee with music by The Bizz and the picking of the 2011 Kildarragh Rose followed by a Disco. Proceeds in aid of the Muckish Development Committee.
On Wednesday at 6pm there is a Curragh Race and BBQ at Portnablagh Pier all teams welcome with prizegiving afterwards in McCarry’s Bar. This event is run by Cumann na gCurrach. At 8pm there is an Irish Night in the Marquee and at 10pm Martin Duggan will provide the music. A Day Trip to Arranmore Island will take place on Thursday. The bus will leave Mc Carry’s Bar. At 7pm there is a charity football match at the Kilmacrennan Soccer Pitch featuring a McCarry’s Bar Select V Highland Radio Proceeds in aid of Dyslexia Association of Ireland Letterkenny Branch. Doors open at 9pm live in the Marquee for the X factor in aid of the Creeslough Day Centre. how starts at 10pm with M.C. John Breslin and Celebrity Judges. There will be prizes for the best 60’s 70’s and 80’s dressed in the crowd.
On Friday, the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland Tea Morning will take place at Pat McCarry’s house in Cashelmore, 10am-2pm. At 3pm the Sheepdog trials 9 (Confined) will take place at McCarry’s Bar. At 6pm the Highland Radio Outside Broadcast will take place from McCarry’s Bar, there will be a Rodeo Bull & Fun for Kids and a Sheep Show (Confined) in Kildarragh. At 9.30pm there will be music in the bar with Brian McLaughlin and at 12 midnight live in the Marquee Hugo and Off The Kuff.
The Kildarragh Fair Hill Walk will take place on Saturday, register at McCarry’s Bar at 9.30am leaving 10.30am sharp. Walk duration is 4-5 hours , 16km. No dogs, suitable clothing and boots. Walk in aid of the Dyslexic Association, Letterkenny Branch, sponsorship cars avialable from McCarry’s. At 12 noon, Highland Radio outside broadcast from McCarry’s , start of All Day Pigeon Shoot by the Trentagh Gun Club will begin and at 12.30pm a Classic Car and Motor Bike Run will leave McCarry’s Bar going to Marble Hill, down around Ards Friary, on to Dunfanaghy around Hornhead and then returning to Mccarry’s Bar.
At 1pm there will be bicycle run time trial by the Errigal Cycling Club, more information from Derek Alcorn on 086 882 6044.
At 1pm the Fair Day begins with a Fun Day for the kids with a BBQ, Bouncy Castle, Obstacle Course, Kids Quads, Face Painting, Blacksmith, Farm Animals, Arts and Crtafts and much much more. At 3pm Dog Show, Story telling with Fergus Cleary, Look back in time old style kitchen, kid’s disco in the marquee, ceili outside with Josie Cannon and Michael Coyle. (Weather permitting). At 3.30pm the Meenderry School renunion band will play. There will be Tractor reversing at 4pm and Tug of War at 4.30pm. 5pm sees a Charity Auction with Mickey in aid of the Dyslexia Association of Ireland (Letterkenny Branch). 6pm sees a 5k Road race and Walk in aid of Donegal Mountain rescue sponsored by Muckish Sand and Gravel. At 6pm there is music in the bar with George Bustard, 9.30pm sees music in the bar with Margaret Rose and at 11.30pm there is music in the bar with The House Mates. Sunday the 7th sees the Closing Dance in the Marquee with the regulators followed by a disco with DJ Edward.
