Caoimhin Connolly was victorious in Spain

Twin Towns Boxing Club’s Caoimhin Connolly won gold at the Boxam Junior/Youth Tournament in Spain at the weekend.

Connolly won the youth 50kgs title while Convoy BC’s Kerry Brown will return home with silver from the youth 60kgs division.

At the Muixara Pavilion in La Nucía, Connolly defeated Edgar Morales from Mexico in Saturday’s final.

Connolly was given the unanimous decision, taking scores of 29-28 from judges Manu Bouvet, Rachell Ritfeld, Sandra Teixeira, Oscar Espinaz and Garry McGillion.

In his semi-final, Connolly defeated Switzerland’s Chris Wurisch, also on a unanimous decision.

Connolly was the Irish Youth 48kgs champion in January when beating Kinsella and he lost out to Kinsella in a later U19 final.

Next weekend, the Twin Towns BC teen will feature in an amateur exhibition at the Rumble In The Hills, Rising Stars professional card at the Aura Leisure Complex.

Brown, the Irish youth 2 champion earlier this year, lost out to Paula Hernandez from Mexico in the youth 60kgs final on Saturday with Hernandez forcing a stoppage in the second round.

The Boxam tournament was organised by the Spanish Boxing Federation and the European Boxing Confederation (EUBC).
