A Kealan Dunleavy goal in each half set Donegal on their way to a comfortable victory over Mayo in the U-20 Development League.

Donegal 2-10
Mayo 1-4

The nine-point win means Gary Duffy’s side are looking forward to a Leo Murphy Cup final against Tyrone next weekend.

Dunleavy scored the two goals and Luke McGlynn posted five points against a Mayo side that fell below what was expected from the men from the west. Certainly after last weekend’s heavy defeat away to Derry and this afternoon’s showing Mayo boss Maurice Sheridan has a lot of work to do ahead of the championship.

Duffy, the Donegal manager will be well pleased with the three games so far with wins over Derry and Roscommon already.
Johnny McGroddy and Luke McGlynn kicked early scores for the locals as Donegal ran into an early lead. But Mayo’s Cian McHale responded with two quick points - one from a close in free - to tie up the game at 0-2 each with almost 10 minutes on the clock.

And when Mayo midfielder Conor Reid powered through for the game’s opening green flag on the 15-minute mark, it looked as if we were going to a contest on hands - but Donegal were back on level terms in a matter of minutes when Dunleavy pounced for the first of the Donegal goals.

It was a case of the right man in the right place as he first time past the Mayo keeper Bryan O'Flaherty after McGlynn’s initial strike was blocked.

The Donegal goal seemed to really knock the stuffing out of Mayo and Donegal rattled off four points without reply to go in four to the good at half time.

McGlynn, who has made a seamless transition from minor to U-20, scored two of the points, Paul O’Hare and Drew McKinney hit the others to send Donegal in 1-6 to 1-2 at half-time. Mayo had not scored in the closing 16 minutes of the half.

Any hope of a Mayo revival after half-time were soon banished. McGlynn, from a 45 metre free, Dunleavy from play and McGlynn again from play extended the Donegal advantage out to seven points.

Mayo, through Tom O’Flaherty, scored the first of the two second half points on 46 minutes. But it was game over shortly afterwards, 10 minutes from time when Dunleavy got in for his second green flag of the afternoon. This time club colleague Jack Gallagher, one of a number of second half replacements sprung by Duffy. was the provider of the final pass after a great run.
