Four Masters took some time to put their dominance on the scoreboard but they ran out worthy winners against Letterkenny Gaels in Tirconaill Park.

Four Masters 2-9

Letterkenny Gaels 0-7

The young Four Masters side have been going along nicely and there is great anticipation for the local derby meeting against St Naul's in Mountcharles next weekend.

Scores were scarce in the opening quarter with both sides registering just one each in the first 15 minutes.

Ronan Frain, the most impressive  Gaels player, availed of a turnover to run the length of the field to point on three minutes and they almost had a goal on 10 minutes when a Frain free dropped short. It broke kindly for Darren McBrearty but Four Masters 'keeper Martin Cassidy was alert to divert for a '45'.

Dermot Slevin levelled for Four Masters on eight minutes from a free but we had to wait until the 17th minute for the shot-shy Masters to go ahead. Leo McHugh had a go and hit a very good point into the breeze.

The best moment of the half came on 22 minutes when Killian Faulkner found Alex McCalmont with a peach of a pass and McCalmont turned and fired to the Gaels net.

The Letterkenny side responded well with Frain hitting two quick points, the first from a free, but Richard O'Rourke replied with a well-hit free on 28 minutes.

Just before the half-time break Kevin Langan had the final point to leave it Four Masters 1-3, Letterkenny Gaels 0-4 at the break.

Like many games in the modern era, the play opened up a little more in the second half but there was little between the sides until the final quarter when Four Masters put daylight between the sides.

Darragh and Senan Quinn had two early second half points for the home side but Ronan Frain replied from a free.

Alex McCalmont and Kevin Langan traded scores to leave it 1-6 to 0-6 after 44 minutes. The home side went six clear in the next eight minutes with points from Jamie Crawford (2) and Caolan Loughney.

Ronan Frain had a late free for the Gaels but Four Masters closed out the game with a second goal, Richard O'Rourke doing well to reach a pass and set up Jamie Crawford to fire to an empty net.
