Ethan O'Donnell of Naomh Conaill grabs possession as St Michael's Carlos O'Reilly looks on and, inset, Brian McEniff
We will have the final round of games in the senior championship next Sunday and it is good that they are all at the one time. There will be a lot to look forward to.
First of all, looking back at the games last weekend, Bundoran were in Donegal Town. I had got news of their No 14, Killian Faulkner and I passed on the information to the management. However, we moved Johnny Boyle out to centre-half and Matthew Duffy is not a man marker. Johnny would have been better suited to him. But in saying that you have to give him high praise. A lot of people are talking about him, including a Finn Harps link. He has a lot of confidence on the ball.
Donegal Town, no more than Ballyshannon and MacCumhaill's, are knocking on the door and it is good to see them back. As for ourselves, we had a reasonable league campaign but a terrible championship, albeit we had a tough draw. But we should be going to Donegal Town and winning games. Donegal Town were the better team on the day. We had a chance late on but their 'keeper made a great double save from Johnny Boyle. We will be facing a relegation battle in a few weeks time.
In the other games, Aodh Ruadh proved too strong, by and large for St Naul's. There is a disparity between top and bottom and it could end up with five teams having no points.
Ballyshannon did get an easier run, but credit to them, they are a good side and the draw was not their fault.
St Eunan's and Kilcar had two more big wins. Glenswilly against Glenfin was close enough for a long period, but Glenswilly are a good young side and they also have Michael Murphy.
As expected Glenties won at St Michael's, but again the home side gave them a game for some time. Glenties are getting tougher games and that could stand to them.
In the final game I was expecting more from MacCumhaill's when they went to Gaoth Dobhair, but Gaoth Dobhair seem to have got their act together. They are getting players back also.
THIS WEEK'S GAMES
Naomh Conaill v Gaoth Dobhair: I do expect at home that Naomh Conaill will win. Gaoth Dobhair are already qualified for the quarter-finals and that could be a factor.
Glenfin v Four Masters: Glenfin, down in Glenfin, will not be easy. They are fighting to avoid relegation on their own merits. It's the kinda game that could easily end in a draw. This is a nice young Four Masters team, who will know much more about themselves after this game.
Milford v Aodh Ruadh: Aodh Ruadh should have too much for Milford, who are not going well. The Ballyshannon side have the wind in their back with three wins so I have to fancy Aodh Ruadh.
MacCumhaills v St Eunan's: I could see MacCumhaill's them giving Eunan's a reasonable game, but cannot see St Eunan's beaten. MacCumhaill's have three good forwards but they were disappointing last week. Still, they are a coming side.
Bundoran v Kilcar: There will be only one winner in this game, Kilcar. I was up at training last night and there are some players away on holidays. Peter McGonigle got hurt last week. We can't manufacture players and Kilcar will want to top the league table.
St Naul's v St Michaels: This is an interesting tie. Overall, St Michaels should win. They have enough good players to carry them through. With Peadar Mogan, Naul's are spirited but they are flat at the moment.
Ardara v Glenswilly: I can't see past Glenswilly. Ardara, like ourselves, are in a tailspin going in the wrong direction. They haven't the forward power to win games.
Cloughaneely v Killybegs: I would fancy Cloughaneely to take that playing at home, with a lot to play for. Killybegs will probaly get through to the quarter-finals even if they lose.
OLD HOBBY HORSE
I have to get back to an old hobby horse of mine this week and that is the logic in asking clubs to travel the length of the county for matches. I was talking to Conor McEniff the other evening and he mentioned that he took the U-17 team to Carndonagh on Friday evening last.
