A club footballer in Donegal has been handed a 36-week ban following an incident in a club championship game last month.
The Naomh Padraig, Lifford player was sanctioned after it was alleged that he had to be restrained as he attempted to make physical contact with a referee.
Donegal GAA’s Competitions Controls Committee (CCC) considered the report of match referee Eugene McHale and initially proposed a 48-week suspension for the player
The game in question was a Senior C Championship game, which finished 3-11 to 1-2 in favour of Sean MacCumhaills.
The Donegal Hearings Committee subsequently met on the matter and handed down a 36-week ban.
The player has the right to appeal the decision to the Ulster Council.
Meanwhile, the CCC have not yet deliberated on possible sanctions for clubs who have not adhered to the jersey numbers submitted submitted to the County Board for publication in the match programme.
The CCC will deal with these and any other infractions that have been brought to their attention by match monitors throughout the club championships once the competitions have concluded.
