Helping hand: Sarah Grealish understands the importance of having a reliable source of support and guidance

In the midst of the chaos that often accompanies this time of year, with the sun shining and bedtime routines becoming a struggle, upcoming exams creating additional demands, and the younger kids on the verge of transitioning to big school, parents, teaching staff, and caregivers find themselves facing a lot.

However, amidst all this hustle and bustle, there’s someone who understands these struggles and wants to help: Sarah Grealish, a mother of two and an empathetic supporter based in Stranorlar.

Sarah’s own journey began at Finn Valley College, where she discovered her diverse range of skills and an insatiable curiosity.

The idea of choosing just one path was something she couldn’t quite wrap her head around. Embracing her love for film and TV, she embarked on college life, trying her hand at various roles on student film projects. She wrote scripts, worked as a producer, delving into the world of sound and audio production, and even had the opportunity to visit sets at TG4. But her passion for writing never waned, leading her to pursue studies in Creative Writing, English, and Psychological Studies at NUI Galway.

Epiphany

It was during her time at NUIG that Sarah had an epiphany - she realized she had the desire to make a difference in the lives of others through Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). Inspired by passionate and empathetic lectures, she encountered individuals who shared her curiosity about understanding human behaviour and were dedicated to helping others.

Continuously supported by her partner Alan and motivated by this realisation, Sarah pursued her Masters in Applied Behaviour Analysis at the University of Ulster. With the guidance of knowledgeable lecturers, she began working on her dissertation alongside the incredible staff and pupils at Dromore National School, Killygordon. Her research focused on increasing early reading skills within pupils with ASD, further deepening her expertise in supporting children.

With her academic foundation and practical experience in hand, Sarah continued to make an impact. She worked as a dedicated one-to-one Home Tutor, assisting children in developing academic skills and preparing them for the significant transition to big school.

Later, as a Work and Life Skills Tutor with Donegal Horizons, she further honed her ability to empower young individuals to thrive in all aspects of life.

Goal

Now, Sarah is taking the leap and launching her own online Behaviour Consultant business. Her ultimate goal is to assist parents, teaching staff, and caregivers in supporting the children and teenagers in their lives.

Recognising the behavioural challenges they face, she aims to provide practical tips, strategies, and resources through her Instagram page, @sarah.behaviour.consultant. Having personally experienced the relentless search for answers as a parent, partner, and educator, Sarah understands the importance of having a reliable source of support and guidance.
