An Post to open new delivery office in Burnfoot

Inishowen sorting operations are to be centralised at a modern facility with 29 staff

An Post to open new delivery office in Burnfoot

An Post says it has been upgrading its local mail delivery operations at locations around the country for some years

An Post will centralise its Inishowen sorting and delivery operation later this year when it opens a new delivery office in Burnfoot.

For many years An Post’s delivery staff have been based in various locations throughout Inishowen including Buncrana, Carndonagh, Moville and Muff.

However, An Post believes that the needs of a modern mail service, where parcels form an ever increasing element of the business, have outstripped those facilities and prompted the search for a modern mails facility to service the various communities across the peninsula.

Later this year An Post mail staff will come together at the new premises in Burnfoot with 27 An Post staff (11 from Carndonagh, seven from Buncrana, five from Moville and four from Muff) sharing the facility.

The move is likely to take place in August, and a further two post staff will commence work there, bringing the staff complement to 29.

An Post says it has been upgrading its local mail delivery operations at locations around the country for some years, and has found custom-fitted delivery offices provide a better quality and more efficient service for customers, better working conditions for staff and adequately meet the logistical, health and safety, fleet and security requirements of the modern-day business.

‘We are delighted to be taking up residence in our new base at Burnfoot,” a spokesman for An Post said.

“Given the growth of our parcels and e-commerce business we needed a modern state-of-the-art facility for our customers and staff.

“We are looking forward to this new chapter in our long history of service to the people of Inishowen.”
