Last of the day and what a story for Cloughan's Martin Scanlon, who surprised many it must be said to take the top numbers. Elsewhere, Martin Harley's tally worked out in the end after looking a little uncertain and Frank McBrearty, non-party; 
Gary Doherty, Sinn Féin; Patrick McGowan, Fianna Fáil and Gerry Crawford, Fianna Fáil, make up the top six. Outside of that, Charles Ward, 100% Redress, had ground to make up.

Twelve candidates are contesting six seats. Five sitting councillors are standing again. They are: Frank McBrearty (non-party), Gary Doherty (Sinn Féin), Martin Harley (Fine Gael), Patrick McGowan (Fianna Fáil) and Gerry Crawford (Fianna Fáil).

Glenties final tallies. 
Micheál Choilm MacGiolla Easbuig, Michael McClafferty and Anthony Molloy in the top three spots, although there's plenty on Sunday that needs to be decided. 

Sixteen candidates are in the running for six seats. Sitting councillors Michael McClafferty, (non-party), John Shéamais Ó Fearraigh (Sinn Féin), Brian Carr (Sinn Féin), Anthony Molloy (Fianna Fáil) and Micheál Choilm MacGiolla Easbuig (Gan Pháirtí) are defending their seats.

A small number of votes from the islands are outstanding.

The final box from Kilmacrennan, which is in the Milford area, is in and Pauric McGarvey is holding his own. There's three seats on offer, with the current standings showing Declan Meehan leading the charge, with Liam Blaney in next and McGarvey in third and John O'Donnell then just outside of the top three.

Donegal LEA in motion now, with Mickey McMahon, Sinn Féin, showing well. Michéal Naughton, Fianna Fáil, and Barry Sweeny, Fine Gael, are second and third at the minute. Sweeny is just three in front of Pauric Kennedy. 

Fifteen candidates are seeking six seats. Five of six sitting councillors - Noel Jordan (Sinn Féin); Niamh Kennedy (non-party), Michael McMahon (Sinn Féin); Michéal Naughton (Fianna Fáil), Barry Sweeny (Fine Gael) - are seeking reelection.

The Letterkenny boxes are almost done, but the tallies say it looks like Donal Mandy Kelly will win the most votes, followed by his Fianna Fáil colleague Ciaran Brogan in second and then Tomás Seán Devine, 100% Redress, third. The other seats, at the minute, look like they could be going to Michael McBride, non-party; Jimmy Kavanagh of Fine Gael; Sinn Féin's Gerry McMonagle and Donal Coyle, Fianna Fáil. Mary T Sweeney from Aontú and, independent Kevin Bradley, are next in line, although there's nothing remotely set in stone.

The 100% Redress Party have had a brilliant day with Ali Farren (Carndonagh), Joy Beard (Buncrana) and Tomás Seán Devine (Letterkenny) and looking like they'll be on the 37 Donegal County Council seats, reports Chris McNulty

There are 18 candidates seeking seven seats in the LEA which makes up part of the Letterkenny-Milford municipal district. All seven sitting councillors are defending their seats. They are: Kevin Bradley (non-party), Gerry McMonagle (Sinn Féin), Jimmy Kavanagh (Fine Gael), Donal Coyle (Fianna Fáil), Donal Mandy Kelly (Fianna Fáil); Ciaran Brogan (Fianna Fáil) and Michael McBride (non-party.)

So the early indicators from Carndonagh are that Ali Fadden and Martin McDermott will fight it out to top the polls, with both tallying excellently. It looks like Fine Gael's Johnny McGuinness will be fighting to keep his seat come tomorrow.

1 - Ali Farren, 100% Redress, with 28.2 percent, 2,223 votes
2 - Martin McDermott, Fianna Fáil, with 26 percent, 2,050, votes
3 - Albert Doherty, Sinn Fein, with 12.7 percent, 1,001 votes
4 -  Martin Farren, Labour, with 12.6 percent, 991 votes
5 - Johnny McGuinness, Fine Gael, with 9.3 percent, 736 votes
6 - Paul Barry McKinney, non-party, 4.9 percent, 383 votes

12:15pm -To date in Carndonagh, Ali Farren, 100% Redress, leads the way, ahead of Martin McDermott of Fianna Fáil. Third, fourth and fifth places on the tallies are Albert Doherty, Sinn Fein; Martin Farren, Labour, with Johnny McGuinness, Fine Gael, fifth.

12:09pm -  The Carndonagh boxes well away. 

Nine candidates are in the running for four seats. All four sitting councillors - Martin Farren (The Labour Party), Albert Doherty (Sinn Féin), Johnny McGuinness (Fine Gael) and Martin McDermot (Fianna Fáil) - are seeking reelection in the LEA which is part of the Inishowen Municipal District.

Candidates: Ali Farren, Malin Head, 100% Redress; Michael White, Greencastle, Green Party; Martin Farren, Moville, The Labour Party; Toni Devine, Lecamy, Sinn Féin; Albert Doherty, Carndonagh, Sinn Féin; Johnny McGuinness, Culdaff, Fine Gael; Martin McDermott, Glengad, Fianna Fáil; Paul Barry McKinney, Carndonagh, non-party; Donal McKinney, Buncrana, The Irish People.

11:21am - Murray and Beard are followed in the Buncrana tally, by Terry Crossan of Sinn Féin, in third, with  Fionán Bradley, Fianna Fail, in fourth and then Paul Canning of Fianna Fáil in fifth. Kim McMemamin of The Irish People is in sixth place at present in the Buncrana boxes, which have just finished.

10:39am - The Buncrana boxes are the first being opened here and so far it's Joy Beard and Jack Murray, who look promising for first-count elections with 17,316 Buncrana LEA votes tallied.

Twelve candidates are contesting five seats in Buncrana.

Sitting councillors Jack Murray (Sinn Féin), Terry Crossan (Sinn Féin) and Paul Canning (Fianna Fáil) are contesting the local electoral area (LEA) which forms part of the Inishowen Municipal District.
