Donegal among Ireland’s leading counties for EV Charging Hubs

Donegal ranks sixth in counties with the most EV charging hubs in Ireland. 

Donegal is tied with Tipperary, Mayo, and Longford, with 1.3 chargers per 10,000 people. 

Topping the list, Westmeath offers the highest number of public EV chargers per capita in Ireland, with 2.2 chargers for every 10,000 people. In second place, Roscommon provides 1.9 public EV chargers per 10,000 people, reflecting the county’s commitment to supporting electric vehicle drivers. 

Electric vehicles are becoming an increasingly practical choice in Ireland, with government plans aiming for nearly one million EVs on the road by 2030. Generous supports, including SEAI purchase grants of up to €3,500 and home-charging subsidies of €600, are helping to lower the cost of switching.

The expanding EV network provides drivers with increasing access to public charging, supporting the county’s shift toward more sustainable transport options.

Yet despite national progress, new research from insurance comparison site Chill Insurance shows that access to infrastructure still varies across counties. They examined EV registrations, the number of public charging points, and dealership availability in every county, adjusted per 10,000 residents to ensure fair comparison
