Kelly McGrory took victory on Tuesday in Finland as she counts down to her World Athletics Championship debut.

The Tir Chonaill AC woman was close to her personal best when winning the 400m hurdles at the Tampere Motonet GP meeting.

McGrory crossed the line at the Ratinan Stadium in Tampere in 57.27 seconds - just 0.05 of a second off the 57.22, her PB and Donegal record, clocked in June 2022.

McGrory saw off Finland’s Heidi Salminen for gold. Salminen, who was the World Under-20 gold medallist in Nairobi in 2021, finished in 57.76 seconds with Aada Aho third in 58.39 seconds.

The Tampere Motonet GP meeting is a World Athletics Continental Tour bronze level meet.

Later this month, McGrory will travel to Budapest for her first World Championships having been named as part of the Irish 4x400m relay team.

McGrory took silver at the recent National Senior Championships in Santry and at the weekend was third in a 400m hurdles at the Flanders Cup, Meeting voor Mon in Leuven, Belgium, where she finished in 58.97 seconds.
