Finn Valley AC's Sinead McConnell with Michelle Rohl and Valerie Boban
Finn Valley AC’s Sinead McConnell won another super silver at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Gothenburg on Monday.
McConnell took silver in the 5k race walk, clocking a season’s best of 27:04.39.
The Castlefin woman was beaten to gold only by a course record by three-time US Olympic racewalker Michelle Rohl who finished in 25:25.50.
Earlier this year, Rohl finished third at the US Olympic Trials - just missing out on a place in Paris.
McConnell pipped her old adversary Valerie Boban of France, who came home third in 27:06.12.
The Finn Valley woman’s medal win came after her tram to the stadium had a mishap and she had to abandon ship to take another ride to the venue.
It’s a second medal for McConnell in Sweden after silver in the 10k road race walk on Saturday and her eyes are now focused on the 20k this coming weekend.
