Scott Macbeth in action for Ireland
There was defeat for Scott Macbeth and Ireland in Tuesday’s Plate final at the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup.
A superb bowling display by UAE saw Ireland fall to an eight-wicket defeat at the Queens Park Oval in Trinidad.
Ireland had already secured the country’s best ever finish at the Under-19 World Cup - and also secured qualification for the next tournament - before taking to the crease on Tuesday in Port Of Spain.
In sweltering heat, Macbeth and his Irish team-mates have had a month-long expedition that has included a dozen matches.
The St Johnston Cricket Club ace top scored in a game against India while he also claimed the scalp of Dewald Brevis of South Africa.
In Tuesday’s Plate final, Macbeth posted 15 runs, including one majestic six. Macbeth was bowled out by Dhruv Parashar. Led by Jack Dickson’s 40, Ireland reached 122 inside 46 overs.
UAE had little trouble with that tally. Spurred by Kai Smith’s 49 and an unbeaten 48 from Punya Mehra, UAE hit 128 for the loss of just two wickets in 26 overs.
