Finn Valley AC brothers John and James Kelly have been selected as part of the Irish team for the European Throws Cup.
The St Johnston men are part of an eight strong Irish squad that will travel to Leiria, Portugal, for the event on March 12-13.
John Kelly will compete in the senior men’s shot put with James Kelly set to go in the under-23 men’s shot put.
The Swedish-based John Kelly, who is coached by Vésteinn Hafsteinsson, recently made his long-awaited return to action following an 18-month injury lay-off.
Kelly won the men’s shot put at the 2022 Växjö Indoor Throw competition, with a 18.22m best - a throw not far off his indoor personal best of 18.35m.
On the same day, James won a men’s shot put at the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena. In events run alongside the AAI National Indoor League Final, Kelly, who is coached by John Kelly senior, had a best throw of 16.94m.
