The new cross-country season will open with a bang at Finn Valley AC with the schools programme and the Champions Cup schedule unveiled.
The primary and secondary schools’ cross-country events will take place on September 14 and 15.
Primary schools cross-country are first up on September 14 with the secondary schools event the following day.
“This is the 21st year of the schools cross-country project and it has always been very well received,” said Finn Valley AC Chairperson Patsy McGonagle.
“Invitations will go out to all primary schools in Donegal and we have engagement from secondary schools from all over the north west area. We have schools competing from Donegal, Tyrone, Derry, Fermanagh and Sligo.
“Distances are shortened to give newcomers an opportunity and this offers physical education and sports teachers an introduction to cross country.”
Upwards of 1,000 children are expected to take part across the two days.
The Champions Cup, which was inaugurated in 2018, will be held on Saturday, September 24, offering clubs a competitive start to the cross-country campaign.
Clubs from all over Ulster and Connacht have taken part with the McGonagle Cup going to the best club on the day.
